At sixteen, Irish folk singer-songwriter Sonny Casey began busking on the streets of Galway before busking her way all across Europe.
Raised on Springsteen and traditional Irish Sean-nós singing, her music is shaped by the wild landscape of her home in Connemara, weaving traditional Irish vocal elements into a contemporary folk sound. Her music centres around warm, intimate vocals and narrative songwriting.
In 2020, she moved to Berlin. With the support of those who’d fallen for her music along her travels, she crowdfunded her debut EP Phoebe and sold out her debut headline show, firmly anchoring herself in the city’s thriving music scene.
A native Irish speaker, Sonny writes in both English and as Gaeilge. In 2023 her original Irish language song ‘Leon’ won second place at the Pan Celtic National Song Contest 2023.
Sonny has since toured Ireland and Germany, opening for Mick Flannery at his sold out Irish shows, sharing stages with the likes of Susan O’Neill and Liam Ó Maonlaí, while playing festivals such as the Galway Folk Festival, Secret Song and Stendhal.
The latest upcoming single is set for release in Autumn 2026.
