At sixteen, folk singer-songwriter Sonny Casey began busking on the streets of her hometown Galway, before travelling and busking all across Europe.
Sonny’s music rises from dark, tender depths. Much like the wild, rugged landscape of her home along the mystical Atlantic, her voice is distinctive and stirring, balanced by a softness and fragility—like a wave on the verge of breaking. Sonny is a sensitive storyteller, raised on Springsteen and influenced by contemporary folk artists such as Gregory Alan Isakov and Bon Iver. Her music, shaped by nature, poetry, and her deep affinity for words, explores themes of love, loss and loneliness.
In 2020, Sonny crowdfunded her debut EP ‘Phoebe’. The following year, she released ‘Phoebe’ and sold out her debut headline show. In 2022, she toured Ireland and Germany, opening for Mick Flannery and sharing stages with Liam Ó Maonlaí.
After the success of her debut EP, she recorded her debut album in an attic by the sea, in the depths of winter. This new body of work pushes her singing and songwriting into uncharted territory.
Sonny is currently based in both Ireland and Berlin. The first single from her debut album is set for release in January 2025.
‘’With a soft and warm voice, Sonny seduced us. No, I can even say "bewitched", and immediately took us into her musical universe.’’— Indie Music Center
